"While we are apt to be very liberal with our positive comments on someone else's posted tile, we are often far less kind to ourselves when we write about the tiles we post. We've all done it. Don't think so? Take a look back at your posts and see if the comments you posted about your own tile are comments you would leave for someone else's tile. It takes just as much energy to point out something positive as it does something negative. Plus the dividends it pays are much more enJOYable!"
I thought these words were very wise, and so I want to try and bear them in mind when I write my blog in the future.
Here is my tile for the Diva Challenge this week. I made a central stripey orb using Knase and XYP, then surrounded it with stripes of Mysteria and Stoic:-
How clever to use an orb in the center with stripes against a background of stripes. Good for you to verbally give positive thoughts on your own work. Jenny was so correct; we should all do this more.
ReplyDeleteOuch. Thanks for making me look in the mirror. I have to raise my hand high in the sky for falling short on seeing and expressing the positive in one's own work thingy. I suspect it's a major defense mechanism---something like, "well, if I don't think I did very well, my feelings won't be hurt if someone else says it." Your orb on the stripe background gets extra points from me for daring to go beyond the strict parameters of the challenge (something else I will work on in the future). I like that little easel display you used too,
ReplyDeleteI really like your tile. And thank you for sharing those words of wisdom.
ReplyDeleteWise words by Jenny, let's remember them. I love your tile with the circle in it.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the words of Jenny!
ReplyDeleteYour tile is so lovely and the "ball" in the middle is just fantastic! I love your little beads and the combination with the other pattern. Really a good job :-)
Yes, yes, yes. Love the tile and absolutely agree with positive words. I am often secretly in love with my own tangles....as well as admiring and appreciating the tangles of others. I will hide my love no longer!! Axxx
ReplyDeleteNice idea to put an orb in the center! Great tile :-)
ReplyDeleteSuch a clever idea, I love it.
ReplyDeleteNeat effect. It enhances the whole idea of the tile by using something round. Neat-o!

I really do like how you brought stripes onto an orb...."Stripes, done two ways" And the patterns you chose go so well together. Good work!
ReplyDeleteI love your tile and the idea to draw an orb over the stripes with stripes in it...
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for theee wise words - it reminds me to my own expectations!
Great tile! The orb design is fantastic. Thanks for sharing Jenny's wise words. I saw that before and it's so true.
ReplyDeleteThat threeD effect is excellent. As for self criticism, most of us were brought up not to blow our own trumpet and we tend to go too far the opposite way. (And, if we are truthful, we like it when other people say the nice things too.) The words are wise, but not easy to adhere to.
ReplyDeleteI like these stripes(scratches) with a sphere in the middle! very fun !
ReplyDeleteVery clever use of the orb in the center! And I appreciate your words of wisdom - too easy to be self-critical. Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteLove it! The orb at the center really pops out.
ReplyDeleteI love this! It is like some fantastical space vehicle floating over a Mystera (or -ous) landscape of brick roads and some crazy type of grass! The Knase and XYP (which gives me trouble like a truculent child) look so good together. Inspired! I love what you say about positive comments. I sometimes think I am too callous, but when I read posts that go on and on about the self doubts and limitations of the writer, I just want to move on! We live in a retirement community full of people who fall into two camps: those who cry all day over a hangnail and those who, even when facing life-threatening situations, face each day with a smile and thankfulness to have, at least, that new day. My wonderful husband taught me the value of seeking out the smile. I believe that is how we share the Divine, and I accept it gratefully. Great tile and great post!
ReplyDeleteJenny's words are SO true! thanks for sharing them. Your tile is so eye-catching, with the orb in the middle!
ReplyDeleteLove the orb! I still tunnel once in awhile, and thank you so much for your kind comment. My life right now is so crazy, that I do tangling for myself, but don't always post. I miss it. I will get back there again. Again, Very nice tile!
