I don't normally post two challenge responses in one, however today is different. After the shootings this week both Joey, and The Diva (via Suzanne Flurr) are concerned about all the troubles in the world and have made it a theme for their challenges.
I have to say this is something I am concerned about as well. To slightly alter a well known phrase - 'All lives matter', but that doesn't mean you can hurt others to achieve your own aim. In most religions, and in a lot of communities, love is highly prized, but you would never know it from the wars conducted in the name of religion or the spitefulness amongst congregations so I am done with religion, you can keep it!
I wish all lives could be ruled by Zentangle® . No mistakes, no condemnation for things not done, just praise for what is done. I have never virtually 'met' such a nice kind group of people as my Zentangle virtual friends.

Anyway enough of me, the theme is Peace and Joey has given us the peace sign as a string along with Suzanne who has asked us to make a ZIA representing Peace. I decided to do the two challenges in one as I have a backlog at the moment and thought I would make my own life more peaceful this way:-)
Somehow I have missed out one of the legs in the peace sign (what an idiot) but no mistakes, so here is the result. I have put an Ellish P for Peace in the top left hand section and used Heartswell for love in the top right hand section. Patina is in the bottom section as I love that tangle, and Organic has been used as borders which is part of Joey's challenge.
I hope you all have a very peaceful day.
Love it! I know what you mean about posting 1 for 2 challenges. I've been trying to create a 2nd to depict Peace, but had the same feeling as you..."why not give myself some time to experience Peace and use 1 design to spread the message". Thank you for sharing! ~Peace
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful sign of peace, so well balanced, such nice tangles, good contrasts, I love it!
ReplyDeleteNice entry!! I did the same thing as you: 2 challenges in 1 for once ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis is embarrassing, but the reason you missed one of the legs of the peace sign is because I did too! SMH Your zendala is lovely. You picked perfect tangles and expertly and artfully rendered them, as usual.
ReplyDeleteI'm another one who missed a leg in the peace sign. I had to do a quick Google search to check after reading your post. I do like your tile, missing leg or no.
ReplyDeleteNow this is weird, but I didn't even notice the missing leg on anyone's tile. LOL I wanted to make sure I got it right (why I couldn't remember I don't know. I was in the middle of all that in the late 60's early 70's), so I checked it. I found out that this little symbol is actually from 1958 during the Anti-nuclear demonstrations in Britain. The arms symbolize the use of a semaphore (flags used to create letters to spell out words). The 2 legs are at a 45 degree angle from the center and symbolize one letter and the straight up and down symbolize the flags being held up and down. I don't remember which is which, but one is for N the other for D meaning Nuclear Disarmament. http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/qt-p-nd.html Here's a link to the explanation.
ReplyDeleteThank you for letting me add to the conversation. But I don't want to forget to let you know that your tile is lovely. I love the tangles that you used and how you used them within the Peace Symbol string.
Beautifully done. I love the dimensionallity you achieved.
ReplyDeleteGreat sign and great chosen tangles.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautifully composed piece.
ReplyDeleteOn religion, I'm with you all the way. People should believe what they choose but not force their views on others and certainly, definitely never ever with violence.Sorry, ranting again. As achild I saw and was impressed by the CND (Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament) and then was a teenager in the 60's, so Peace is ingrained in my very soul - but I still didn't notice the omission of the leg on the symbol - we see what we expect to see. Anyway, I love it, especially that Organic border. Lovely.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great "twofer" response to the Diva and Joey challenges. I love Melina's explanation of how the peace symbol was derived, and so what if you missed one bit? We get the idea! Thank you for your insights on the disturbing events that have brought us these challenges. We do need to reject the use of religion to foster selfish and violent acts. We make the angels weep, I'm sure. I agree about the wonderful support of the beautiful souls involved in the Zentangle community. Aren't they the best? Peace!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful 2 in one!
ReplyDeleteI really love this one - a great combination of tangles, wonderful balance between light and dark. I could keep looking at it for a long time.
ReplyDeleteA wonderful composition! Love it!
