Ellish

I hope all our Canadian friends had a great weekend and enjoyed Canada Day yesterday. I had marked it on the calendar so I knew we wouldn't see the challenge until today.

I keep trying to get some of my friends interested in the Zentangle® Method. This week I had some friends round and I talked them into trying it out. I had previously explained about the Zentangle® Method and shown them how we usually draw borders etc. However on this occasion I drew a string on some tiles and showed them how to fill them with Knightsbridge, Florz and Tidings. When everyone was finished we fitted them all together in an ensemble and then I surprised them by adding a Dragons head which I did before they came. I think they were quite impressed that they had made a Dragon out of such simple tiles, but sadly I don't think any of them were interested enough to do any more in the future:-( It is a shame because I would love to have a real live Zentangle friend. Oh well, at least I have all my world wide friends to talk to here.
The Diva's Challenge this week is to use the new official tangle pattern Ellish. As The Diva mentioned some people have been using it on the Mosaic App for a few days now. Maria herself started it by posting a beautiful Ellish she had drawn. Then she started to 'alphabellish' as she called it. She posted an A-ish, then a Bee-ish. Now most people know me as YT so at this point I couldn't resist  jumping on the bandwagon and drew this YT-ish lol.
Anyway Maria has posted many more beautiful letters of the alphabet which she has drawn in an Ellish manner and I am sure she must have finished the whole alphabet at home by now. She invited everyone to join in by using the hashtag #alphabellish.

This is the Ellish I have drawn for the Diva's Challenge today:-

  1. What an original idea to draw together the dragon, I like him very much. Finding friends in your neigbourhood who like to tangle together is not easy, it is the same here in Belgium. Everyone likes this way of drawing but doing that by thereselves is mostly to much.
But, anyway, you have lots of virtual friends who appreciate each other. Your Ellish tile is very nice!!!

  2. Love your Ellish tiles, and think the YT-ish one is really cool. Good job. Also like how you turned the other tiles into a dragon. I understand how you feel about your friends, as I have yet to meet anyone IRL who is interested in doing tangles, and I've been tangling since 2011.

  3. Me too, YT. I would like to have some Toronto friends who would like to Tangle together (sounds like a song, doesn't it), There are lots of CZT's in Canada, but there must be some people like me, who aren't there yet. But, I don't know how to find them. Thank heavens for the Internet, and all the tanglers on it...lol.

  4. I've found a few people who were interested enough to attend a few Zentangle classes I gave, but I haven't marketed it as seriously as I should. I'm a recovering lawyer, not a recovering marketer. I haven't checked out the mosaic app. There are already too many social media forums for me to keep track of, but it's nice to learn from others what's going on there. I like your group dragon idea and your Ellish and Yish tiles. For people who like Hollibaugh, this is a nice tangle.

  5. I love the mosaic that you did with your friends. Most of my friends just shake their heads sadly at my Zentangle obsession LOL! At least I have one good friend that enjoys it as much as I. Enough that she became a CZT too. I do like your Ellish. I guess I will have to work on it more to get it as lovely!

  6. Your ensemble piece is really great! I have yet to meet anyone who even knows what Zentangle is let alone someone I'd like to draw with. I draw every morning at my local cafe and have been since my obsession began 2 1/2 years ago. I can count on one hand the number of people who have expressed any curiousity about it. Oh well...
    I love your YTish;-)

  7. Oh how cool! I knew someone would have to get going on creating all the letters in teh Ish font ;) but I love yours. The color is so pretty, with the white and the printemps all behind it. The second tile, too...sitting up on the ennies with its little crown of zinger. good stuff!

  11. You are so wonderful! I'm glad you shared your ZT with your friends. I recently had a similar experience with a friend of mine! Oh, well. We are truly a mosaic of different styles and interests! Your tiles are really beautiful, especially the YTish!

  12. Beautiful tiles with ellish, especially the one with a little touch of read. It is a funny idea to make puzzle- like group- tangles. Unfortunately there isn't anyone who loves to draw or tangle in my neighbourhood too ;) ....

  13. Thank you all for replying, I have been so interested in your stories and amazed to hear how so many others have the same problem. It is hard to understand how something I think is so amazing and easy to do is of little interest to my friends. I don't expect them all to take to it, but you would think one or two would. Even my partner can't see the point of it and is only interested in seeing what I produce :-(
