Back to Basics and Resolutions

I had such a good Christmas and Santa was amazingly kind, I got all sorts of tangling presents. White gel pens, coloured markers, a tile storage album and several tangling books. As the Diva said, so many new things I don't know where to start.
I mentioned last week that my New Year's resolution is to use the Zentangle Method® more, as opposed to just creating Zentangle® Inspired Art for fun, so The Diva's challenge this week is just the thing for me.

First I put some gently music on then sat down with my tile. Today I drew a string which was the first that came to mind, a sort of figure of eight divided by a slightly wavy line.
Next I have a bag with the tangle pattern names on little bits of old card in it. When it comes to choosing a pattern for a section of the tile I just pick a card out and use the tangle written on it. The names that came out this time were Beelight, Hamail, Chillon, Ennies, Gust and Betweed. The one choice that I made myself was when I sat back and looked at it this way, that way, upside down etc. and I choose which way I liked it best and put my initials on that side of it. This is how it came out.

  1. I totally agree... I have also accumulated lots of pens and pencils and sometimes my brain is overloaded without any idea... Your explanation is perfect to tangle ZIA for fun and to separate it from classic Zentangle.
Your tile is great, I love it!

  3. It is a lot easier if you have a way to select tangles for a tile. You put them together in a very pleasing fashion.

  10. I am also new to the pattern Gust, thanks for the introduction, it looks like fun. I like your tile as a whole and your way of choosing them. Have you tried the randomiser on tanglepatterns.com?

  11. Hmmm...you do know that each of us reading this post will be rushing to put all our tangles on strips of paper and creating our own little tangle resource center (fondly referred in the comment section as 'grab bag'), right? Great idea! Love how they all came together!

  16. So glad Santa treated you well and that you have lots of new goodies! I love the grab bag idea! As someone here said, we will all be rushing off to cut slips of paper and finding a suitable drawstring bag. Your tile is wonderful. It really reflects the simplicity and serenity of going back to just "doing" rather than planning and overthinking. Excellent!

  22. Very pretty tile and I love your description of your process. I too have been trying to think of a way to choose tangles to use. I think I really like just writing them down and grabbing a few to see what comes out. Thank you for the idea. And again, very nicely done tile!
